The Second Annual Zombie 5K Run will take place at Spruce Run Recreation Area in Clinton Township, this Sunday, Sept. 28. Runners and walkers can pre-register online at www.VHSEF.org until midnight on Friday, Sept. 26.
Walk-up registrations begin at noon on Sunday, with the race starting at 2 p.m. The pre-registration fee is $20 and the walk-up registration fee is $25, students can participate for $20. The first 300 registrants will receive a cinch sack and T-shirt. Post-race refreshments will be provided for all registrants.
There will be live music for all to enjoy and the Kiwanis Club of North Hunterdon – Clinton will be selling food throughout the event.
The 5K course will include a cemetery scene. Runners will enter Spruce Run Cemetery where they will encounter a toxic waste spill. The toxic spill has disastrous consequences, re-animating the dead and creating an army of Zombies. Runners who are able to outsmart the Zombies will be permitted to exit the cemetery and make their way to the finish line, where relieved family and friends will be cheering on survivors.
Voorhees High School (VHS) students and staff will transform into Zombies, Voorhees High School principal Ron Peterson will be among the living dead. The Voorhees High School Drama Club, led by Nancy Reynolds, will be providing make up for the Zombies.
The Second Annual Zombie 5K Run is presented by the Voorhees High School Education Foundation and sponsored by the Hunterdon Health and Wellness Centers in Clinton and Whitehouse Station. The Red Mill Museum’s Haunted Village will be providing decorations and props for the 5K course.
